The Forward Focused 30-day devotional journal

You don't have to stay stuck, and you don't have to walk forward alone.

She was married for what she thought would be a lifetime and is starting over in her forties. She gave her best years to a job that is suddenly gone. Her house is quiet now that the children are grown, or her house is full of little ones while she tries to hold everything together. She has buried a child, walked through financial chaos, or sat in a doctor's office and heard news that changed everything.

If you see yourself anywhere in her story, this journal was written for you. Over thirty days you'll sit with Scripture that speaks straight to the ache, reflect honestly on where you are and why, write down what you've been carrying, and practice setting it down, so you can stop looking back and start walking boldly into everything God has ahead for you.

Keep your eyes on Jesus. God has a plan.
What's inside each day

The framework

Face the facts. Frame the future. Become forward focused.

Step one

Face the Facts

Say out loud why you are where you are.

Sometimes we look back through rose-colored glasses and remember the past as better than it really was. When you get honest and say out loud why you are where you are, you stop romanticizing it, and you can finally see whether and how you were walking in the will of God.

Isaiah 43:18-19
Step two

Frame the Future

Write the vision down and make it plain.

God knows the plans He has for you, and He does not label you by what you've been through. He has removed your past as far as the east is from the west, and the east and the west never touch, so once you lay it down, don't pick it back up. Seek the Lord, seek godly counsel, and write the vision down and make it plain.

Jeremiah 29:11Psalm 103:12Habakkuk 2:2Hebrews 11:1
Step three

Forward Focused

Jesus said that anyone who puts a hand to the plow and keeps looking back isn't ready for the work of the kingdom, so your heart and your hand have to line up. Set your face like a flint, get your posture and your position pointed forward, and take the step God already told you to take, because many times He won't show you the next step until you take that one. When God guides, He provides.

Who this is for

Friend, I wrote this for you.

  • The woman who was married for what she thought would be a lifetime and is starting over in her forties
  • The woman who said yes to a marriage for the wrong reasons and is living with what came after
  • The woman whose life handed her a surprise she wasn't planning for
  • The woman who gave her best years to a job that is suddenly gone
  • The mom whose children just left for college and whose house is quiet in a way she didn't expect
  • The mom with little ones who is building a career, raising babies, and trying to take care of herself, all at the same time
  • The mother grieving a loss no mother should ever have to carry
  • The woman facing the finances, the diagnosis, or the decision she keeps putting off
